E-Filing: Basics and Formatting (NJ)

A Practice Note addressing electronic filing (e-filing) for counsel filing documents in the New Jersey Superior Court, Law Division, Civil Part using eCourts Civil, in non-foreclosure actions in the Chancery Division, General Equity Part using the Judiciary Electronic Document Submission (JEDS) system, and in the Appellate Division using eCourts Appellate. This Note identifies who can e-file, what to e-file (including e-filing exceptions), and when to e-file. It also sets out the formatting requirements for e-filed documents, including the acceptable file formats and size limits for each e-filing application. This Note also discusses how to organize exhibits, the permitted signature forms, and how to redact confidential personal identifiers and remove metadata before e-filing.
